Generate and Use Payment Methods
Now that you know what the concept of Payment Method is, you are asking your self how I can create it and where I can use it.
How to generate a Payment Method ID?
The Payment Method generates before or after a purchase and can be easily integrated to your payment cycle experience. In the set of Payment Method APIs, basically, you will provide Moneris API the associated payment details used to complete a transaction and Moneris API will reply to you with a Payment Method ID.
The Payment Method ID is unique and hold the information related to the associated payment details provided, it means that one customer can have more than one Payment Method ID associates to their profile in your store. If the customer has more then one credit card associated to his profile, this customer will have two Payment Method ID, one for each credit card.
| Payment Details | Payment Method |
|---|---|
| Customer: John Payment Source: Card Contact Info: 1 and 2 Address: 1 | Payment Method ID 1 |
| Customer: John Payment Source: Token Contact Info: 1 and 2 Address: 1 | Payment Method ID 2 |
| Customer: John Payment Source: Konek Contact Info: 1 and 2 Address: 1 | Payment Method ID 3 |
Where I can use Payment Method?
Payment method can be used to perform authorization, pre-authorization, incremental, completions and refunds and supports:
- CARD: Raw credit/debit card data
- TEMPORARY TOKEN: Generated via Hosted Tokenization
- PERMANENT TOKEN: Moneris Vault and be reused indefinitely
- WALLET: Digital wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay and Konek and others
Overall, the Payment Method concept simplifies how merchants manage and reuse customer payment details by replacing complex, sensitive data with a single secure identifier. By leveraging Payment Method IDs within the Moneris API, you can streamline checkout flows, reduce operational overhead, and enhance both security and user experience. This approach not only supports modern payment scenarios such as subscriptions and one-click checkout but also ensures your systems remain scalable and compliant, enabling you to focus on delivering seamless and efficient payment experiences.
